(90%) is free weight based. Although most
training facilities are completely machine
based and claim to be safer and more
effective, this couldn't be any further from
the truth. Some of the major problems with a
machine only based workout is the fact that
your muscle "stabilizers" don't get a chance
to work properly. Our muscles are designed to
work as a team, not as individuals. By
working solely on machines, our bodies only
get to work in one plane of motion and only
get to use a certain group of muscles the
exact same way every time. This type of
training leads to muscle imbalances and a
greater risk of injury. Machine based
training also uses fewer muscle groups per
exercise. By using fewer muscle groups, you
end up doing less work, which means LESS
RESULTS! And lastly, you can't add any
variety to machine based workouts. The
machines only work one way! Working on the
same machines week after week becomes very
boring!
